Makita MAC5200 Big Bore 3.0 HP Air Compressor – Reviews
This is yet another Makita product that for the most part seems to please the reviewers. Performs flawlessly according to most reviewers. One reviewer was actually chocked how much better and smaller it was compaired to other compressors. Makita MAC5200 Big Bore 3.0 HP Air Compressor can be out into a car trunk, or under a shop table – and still be funtional in the handle down mode.
Makita MAC5200 Big Bore 3.0 HP Air Compressor is a well designed product. The folding handles makes it easy to maneuver on the ground, since there are two handles on each side for lifting. It has hooks for hose storage and a storage compartment for smaller items.
Recovery is very quick on Makita MAC5200 Big Bore 3.0 HP Air Compressor and it has a spectacular performance according to most of the reviewers. An awesome unit that might be slightly heavier that it appears on the image, but still impressive performance according to most users. Oil level sight glass and easy drain location are a plus. A very well buit compressor, it takes about 75 seconds for the tank to recover from each use and you’ll get about 45 to 30 seconds of air time.
There are som complaints about the wheels on this unit. A number of the reviewers has experienced the wheels to be of poor quality. The wheels are said to be plastic cheap wheels. You would excpect better wheels on a heavy unit like Makita MAC5200 Big Bore 3.0 HP Air Compressor. Also there some reviewers that pointed out, they haven’t had any problems with the wheels at all (even after wheeling it over rough terrain and in and out of many sites).
One reviewer was mention the wheels to not be as plastic as some reviewers was saying. But fact remains, plastic or not, for some users the wheels broke the first day of using this unit. Another reviewer was saying that the wheels has a plastic center, but the tire itself are least 1/2″ solid rubber.
One reviewer wasn’t happy with the Makita service and support, stated it to be very poor and suggested not to buy any Makita products. This mainly due to the support, because the products are usually good quality in itself but if you needs to have contact with the Makita service and support, you may be in for a bad experience.
Makita MAC5200 Big Bore 3.0 HP Air Compressor runs at 3420 rpm and has a slightly larger bore than the Mac2400 and are therefore significantly louder, but still the unit may be impressively quietier than expected for most people.
All things considered, and despite some bad experience with the wheels, it’s still a very good buy concidering price, compressor output, built in features, compactness, portability and all controls including easy to use ball valve drain cock accessible from the front.
